I was recently given an old art binder with some art and flyers which I produced in the early ’90s, both for myself and Hepcat. I’m guessing that I’d left this at a band member’s home back then, either by accident or intentionally for them to evaluate my art. In my old age, so many memories like this one have turned to grey.
Even more so, the flyer above, which I found amongst the relics, completely evades my memory, especially since I’ve never heard of any of these three bands, and I can’t even remember whom I would’ve known well enough from that scene for me to agree to draw a flyer for their (or their friend’s) gig. Nevertheless, I do have a good memory of drawing that thrasher-skeleton dood at my parents’ home somehow, and I think I may have done it in ’90.
What’s interesting is that the gig was held at a residence in Culver City, and it was a noon concert. Why during the day? Whose house was it? Did I know the owner of the house, or did I know someone from one of those bands? Geez.
I’m actually going to make a copy of the flyer and send it to that address with these same questions. I’m curious to see the response, if any. I’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, by all means, if you know about this gig or these bands, please drop me a line!
Update January 21, 2013: I made a copy of the flyer and sent it to the address shown, with a handwritten letter with the same inquiries above. I addressed it to “Degenerates Punk Band?” with “Your Neighbor” as the sender. I didn’t leave an email nor phone number in the letter, so they have no choice but to write me back and send some cool, crazy photos and awesome stories about the noon punk show, or come over and say “leave us alone, you weird, creepy stalker—we don’t know nothing about your stupid punk band flyer and your art sucks” and throw the crumpled flyer in my face. Let’s see what happens.
Update April 19, 2013: Well, it’s been a few months and no response. Ah well. It was worth a shot.
Meanwhile, here’s another random gem I found in the binder. Man, talk about random. I can only guess that I did this as a cynical response to some televised news report I may have seen about rescue dogs. Click on the image to see the larger version on my Flickr. Hmm. Enjoy.

co-workers and i were just talking about the good old days where exacto blades were our best friends when making collages or mock ups. seeing the band flyer reminds me of that too.

Hey Patrick, thanks for dropping by and the comment. I wouldn’t hesitate to say that a sharp, fresh X-Acto blade will always and forever be one of the best friends I ever had. Not too far behind would be Zip-a-Tone. =D lol
Hmm. Speaking of the good ol’ days, I also rediscovered my old art/graphic design box from back in my college days (early ’90s). Man talk about prehistoric tools like French Curves, circle templates and Rötring compasses. I’m gonna have to take some pics and post ‘em. Stay tuned.
